Square 8vo, paperback, embossed cover printed in red and black, 262 pp. An elegant illustrated edition featuring 33 woodcut illustrations by Gaston Pastré, including the frontispiece and numerous illustrations within the text, some printed in multiple tones. This is the first volume of the “Les Beaux Romans” collection published by Henri Jonquières. Limited edition of 1,180 copies: 50 on Imperial Japan paper, 30 on Van Gelder Holland paper, and 1,100 on Rives vellum. This copy belongs to the Rives vellum edition, the third paper type. A beautiful Art Deco publication from the early 1920s, whose typography and red-and-black-framed cover complement Pastré’s woodcuts. The book is particularly sought after as the first title in the collection. A fine copy, bound in its original cover. The cover is slightly browned and sun-faded, particularly on the spine and margins, with a few small marks, creases, and minor imperfections on the headbands and corners; the binding shows the usual signs of wear typical of a copy that has remained in its original cover.
