PORTUGAL — Centennial of the First Postage Stamp — Sir Rowland Hill — 1.75 1940. Commemorative stamp marking the centennial of the first postage stamp, face value 1$75 escudo, blue, featuring Sir Rowland Hill (1795–1879), the British reformer who pioneered the modern postal system. Inscriptions: “1840 - MAIO - 1940” and “CENTENARIO DO SÊLO POSTAL.” Used, perforated. Fairly heavy circular postmark in the lower portion; some signs of wear.
