FRANCE — Two “Iris” series stamps — 1 F and 30 c — perforated Third Republic. Fragment bearing two red “Iris” stamps, designed and engraved by Georges Hourriez: one with a face value of 1 franc and one with a face value of 30 centimes. Female effigy of the Republic holding a scepter topped with a stylized fleur-de-lis. Both stamps bear numerous control perforations (private cancellations) in addition to postal cancellations. This detail is of interest for postal history but constitutes a significant flaw for a collection of specimen stamps.
