SOUSTELLE (Georgette) — Lacandon Collections - Lot 284
SOUSTELLE (Georgette) — Lacandon Collections Paris, National Museum of Natural History, 1966. Catalogs of the Musée de l'Homme, Series H, America III. Supplement to Volume VI, No. 2, of *Objets et Mondes*, Journal of the Musée de l'Homme. Quarto, paperback, cream and green printed cover, 110 pp., numerous black-and-white photographic illustrations in the text. An important ethnographic catalog devoted to the Lacandon collections of the Musée de l'Homme, by Georgette Soustelle, a specialist in the indigenous peoples of Mexico. The work methodically describes the material and ritual objects of the Lacandon people of Chiapas: clothing, ornaments, utensils, ceramics, incense burners, calabashes, and ceremonial objects. It is illustrated with photographs of objects as well as ethnographic documents collected in the field. The specialized bibliography considers it a reference catalog on Lacandon material culture. First edition, published with the support of the CNRS. The 110-page collation is confirmed by institutional bibliographic records. A fine copy, with a slightly yellowed cover and a few subtle signs of wear; the interior is in very fresh condition.
