RIEMSCHNEIDER (Margarete). — The World of the Hittites. - Lot 267
RIEMSCHNEIDER (Margarete). — The World of the Hittites. Paris, Éditions Corrêa - Buchet/Chastel, 1955. In-4 (approx. 26.5 cm), publisher’s binding in full white cloth, red and black title on the front cover. 244 pp., bibliography, one fold-out map, and 108 black-and-white plates. “Great Civilizations of Antiquity” series, edited by Helmuth Th. Bossert. Introduction by Helmuth Th. Bossert; translated from the German by Henri Daussy. Original French edition of this important overview of Hittite civilization: history, society, religion, writing, and artistic production. The extensive iconographic material reproduces monuments, reliefs, sculptures, religious objects, and archaeological remains from Anatolia. Condition: interior in good condition and plates well preserved. Binding is very worn; the cloth is heavily soiled and stained, with signs of rubbing and an old rectangular mark on the front cover. Original dust jacket missing—this is worth noting, as complete copies are normally presented with an illustrated dust jacket.
