Quarto, paperback, color illustrated cover based on a Japanese painting (Ektachrome by Lavaud), numerous black-and-white illustrations and reproductions. Original price: 250 F. Issue No. 44 of the monthly magazine *Le Jardin des Arts*, edited by René Wittmann, devoted to art history, museums, architecture, and the decorative arts. A particularly rich table of contents including, notably: Terukazu Akiyama, “Japanese Art in Antiquity and the Middle Ages”; Yvan Christ, “Saint-Germain-des-Prés at Fourteen Centuries”; Paul Jamot, “Rubens and the Flemish”; Georges Pillement, “Castles and Fortified Towns of Veneto and Lombardy”; Cl. Roger-Marx, “A Great Painter of the Movement: Daumier”; René Barotte, “Piaubert, an Innovator in Abstract Art”; Madeleine Fuchs, “Storing Television Sets and Other Items”… ; as well as columns devoted to Parisian exhibitions and galleries. Terukazu Akiyama’s study on Japanese art is richly illustrated with paintings, scrolls, and landscapes from the ancient Japanese schools, notably works attributed to Sesshū and from the Kamakura period. Paul Jamot’s article on Rubens and the Flemish artists is accompanied by numerous reproductions of works by Rubens, Van Dyck, David Teniers the Younger, and other masters of Flemish painting. The issue also contains several interesting period advertisements, notably for Gabriel Rouchès’s *La Peinture espagnole* (Albin Michel), *Le Fils de Napoléon en images*, and Henri Perruchot’s *La Vie de Toulouse-Lautrec*. Shows signs of use. Cover is scuffed and slightly soiled, with creases, scratches, and wear along the edges; corners and cap edges are worn. Small tear along the lower edge of the cover. A few stains and marks on the back cover, with a handwritten annotation. The interior is generally clean and well-preserved, despite some slight signs of handling and minor signs of age.
