JOIN-LAMBERT (Michel). — Jerusalem: Jewish, Christian, Musli - Lot 175
JOIN-LAMBERT (Michel). — Jerusalem: Jewish, Christian, Muslim. Paris, Albert Guillot, 1957. Large quarto, 174 pp., 149 photographs, 10 plans, and 1 map; publisher’s binding in cream full cloth, with the title “JÉRUSALEM” stamped in red on the front cover. Part of the “Les Hauts Lieux de l’Histoire” series, edited by Albert Champdor; eighth volume. First edition of this important historical and iconographic monograph on Jerusalem, written by Michel Join-Lambert, a priest of the Oratory and a professor of history. The work examines the Holy City through its three major religious traditions—Jewish, Christian, and Muslim—tracing its history from biblical antiquity to the modern era. It is richly illustrated with a remarkable collection of photographs featuring Jerusalem’s monuments, holy sites, walls, gates, religious buildings, and landscapes. Richly illustrated with 149 photographs—some full-page—accompanied by 10 plans and a map, it provides a fascinating topographical and architectural record of Jerusalem in the mid-20th century. Institutional bibliographic records confirm the pagination, the illustrations, and its status as the eighth volume in the series. The “printed” date visible in this copy is January 25, 1957, printed by the Master Printers Firmin-Didot & Co. However, some bibliographic references are dated 1956, which explains why this edition is sometimes attributed to both years. A fine copy in its original publisher’s binding. The cloth is slightly soiled and marked in places, with minor signs of wear; the interior is fresh and well-preserved. Without the illustrated dust jacket, which normally accompanied the volume.
