DIVERSION — No. 30 - Lot 94
DIVERSION — No. 30 Czechoslovakia. Text by Henry Malherbe. Diversion, monthly magazine, No. 30, undated [circa mid-20th century]. In-4, paperback, illustrated cover in black and blue, approximately 18 pp., lavishly illustrated with black-and-white photographs. Issue No. 30 of the illustrated magazine Diversion, devoted to Czechoslovakia, featuring an article by Henry Malherbe. A richly illustrated travel and popular science publication showcasing Prague, Bratislava, and the landscapes, monuments, and people of Czechoslovakia. The cover features a view of Prague and St. Charles Gate; inside, a spectacular photographic layout accompanies Malherbe’s text, focusing in particular on Prague and its connections to Mozart. The issue is bibliographically known by the full title “Diversion No. 30—Czechoslovakia, Mozart’s Chosen Land,” and a comparable copy is described as a paperback in-4 format of approximately 18 pages with numerous black-and-white illustrations. The magazine’s appeal also lies in its period pharmaceutical advertisements, which are particularly visually striking here: a full-page ad for Citrosodine from Laboratoires Longuet and an advertisement for Dr. Debouzy’s Pills, both featuring photographs. They give this issue a character that is highly representative of the illustrated advertising press of the time. In good overall condition. The cover shows some scuffing and minor wear along the edges, particularly at the corners and spine, with a small marginal tear visible on the front cover. A few minor marks and creases from normal use. The interior is clean and well-preserved, with a slight patina on the paper.
