AUBOYER (Jeannine) — VON MATT (Leonard) - Lot 42
AUBOYER (Jeannine) — VON MATT (Leonard) Khmer Art at the Guimet Museum in Paris. Zurich, Éditions Manesse, 1966. Folio (approx. 33 × 25 cm), loose-leaf, in an illustrated cardboard folder with flaps. Text by Jeannine Auboyer, then chief curator of the Guimet Museum; photographs by Leonard von Matt. This 1966 edition is devoted to the Guimet Museum’s collection of Khmer art, featuring a short introductory text by Jeannine Auboyer and 42 separate photographic plates depicting Khmer sculptures, statues, and architectural elements housed in the museum. The bibliographic descriptions consulted confirm 6 pages of text and 42 plates, with some reproductions in color. A fine documentary collection, characteristic of the major photographic publications devoted to Asian arts in the 1960s, enhanced by Leonard von Matt’s photographs. Condition: interior and plates in satisfactory to good condition; original slipcase is noticeably worn, with significant water stains and discoloration, particularly on the covers, as well as scuffing, creases, and small marginal tears. The condition of the slipcase significantly detracts from the value of this copy.
