MAYA ART OF MEXICO. - Lot 35
MAYA ART OF MEXICO. Paris, National Museum of Natural History – Musée de l'Homme, Ethnology Laboratory, 1974. Square 8vo (approx. 21 × 21 cm), paperback, illustrated cover. 39 pp., numerous full-page black-and-white photographic reproductions. Catalog of the exhibition “Maya Art of Mexico,” presented at the Musée de l’Homme from June to September 1974, an exhibition that received a grant from the Association française d’Action artistique. Texts by Manuel Barbachano Ponce, Arturo García Formenti, Román Piña Chan, and Georgette Soustelle, among others. The exhibition primarily featured archaeological artifacts from the Barbachano-Ponce collection, several of which are reproduced in the catalog. A lovely little publication with a highly graphic layout, devoted to Maya sculpture and ceramics from Mexico: heads, statuettes, and figurines from the Classic and Postclassic periods. Condition: good copy. Slight scuffing and minor signs of wear on the cover; interior is fresh.
