ARDENNE DE TIZAC (Henri d'). — Chinese Sculpture. - Lot 31
ARDENNE DE TIZAC (Henri d'). — Chinese Sculpture. Paris, Les Éditions G. Van Oest, 1931. Square quarto, paperback, original printed cover, 49 pp., 64 plates. First edition. An important study by Henri d'Ardenne de Tizac, curator of the Cernuschi Museum, devoted to the development of Chinese sculpture, from the earliest molded figurines and chiseled stone to the introduction and flourishing of large-scale Buddhist statuary. The work, published in the “Bibliothèque d’Histoire de l’Art” series edited by Auguste Marguillier, is lavishly illustrated with 64 plates, offering a remarkable overview of ancient Chinese sculpture. A fine copy in its original cover, which is slightly faded and shows a few minor signs of wear; the interior is fresh, with a few rare foxing spots.
