5th INTERNATIONAL TRIBAL ART FAIR — Paris, 2002 - Lot 25
5th INTERNATIONAL TRIBAL ART FAIR — Paris, 2002 Paris, Société Orlowski, 2002. Catalog of the 5th International Tribal Art Fair, held at the Hôtel Dassault, 7 Rond-point des Champs-Élysées, September 19–22, 2002. Quarto, paperback, with an illustrated cover featuring flaps. Numerous color photographic reproductions, often full-page. This catalog brings together the leading dealers and galleries specializing in primitive art, presenting a selection of works from Africa, Oceania, and other non-European cultures. Each exhibitor is featured with one or more remarkable pieces reproduced in color, along with details on origin, dimensions, and provenance. Notable among them are Agnès Zanga-Woliner, featuring a shield from Ethiopia, as well as Kevin Conru and John Giltsoff, presenting a significant war shield from the Blackwater River region of New Guinea. These International Tribal Art Fairs, held at the Hôtel Dassault, were major events in the Parisian primitive art market at the turn of the 2000s; the third edition in 2000 already brought together 23 galleries and attracted approximately 12,000 visitors. A fine copy. A few slight signs of wear and soiling on the cover, particularly along the right margin; interior is in fresh condition.
