[MAYAS]. — The Art of the Maya of Guatemala. Exhibition 1967 - Lot 18
[MAYAS]. — The Art of the Maya of Guatemala. Exhibition 1967–1968, Strasbourg, Nantes, Chambéry, Marseille, Bordeaux. Paris, Éditions des Musées Nationaux [Réunion des Musées Nationaux], 1967, 8vo, paperback, color-illustrated cover, 170 pp. and 86 plates, with illustrations and maps in the text. Catalog of the major traveling exhibition devoted to Mayan art from Guatemala, presented successively in Strasbourg, Nantes, Chambéry, Marseille, and Bordeaux in 1967–1968. The publication is cataloged by the Réunion des Musées Nationaux; it was translated and adapted from German by Victor Beyer, in collaboration with Jean-Louis Faure and Alain Staub, and includes contributions by Carlos Samayoa Chinchilla and the Maya scholar Thomas S. Barthel. Extensive documentation on the pre-Columbian civilizations of Guatemala: sculpture, ceramics, statuary, ritual objects, and Maya hieroglyphic writing. The illustrations include 86 photographic plates at the end of the volume, in addition to maps, drawings, and illustrations within the text. This copy bears the handwritten note on the flyleaf: “Strasbourg, March 22, 1967.” A fine copy. The illustrated cover is intact, with normal rubbing, minor wear on the top and bottom edges, the spine, and the edges; a few superficial marks. The interior is clean. There is a dated handwritten note on the flyleaf.
