[EGYPT - TUTANKHAMUN]. — TUTANKHAMUN AND HIS TIME. - Lot 13
[EGYPT - TUTANKHAMUN]. — TUTANKHAMUN AND HIS TIME. Catalog of the exhibition held at the Petit Palais, Paris, from February 17 to September 4, 1967. Catalog edited by Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt. Paris, Réunion des Musées Nationaux, 1967. Quarto, paperback, color-illustrated cover featuring a detail of Tutankhamun’s funerary mask, approximately 205 pp., abundant black-and-white and color illustrations, maps, plans, and documents; some illustrations are fold-out. The Paris Musées catalog entry lists 205 pages; the BnF lists 204 pages—a bibliographic discrepancy likely due to the counting of introductory pages. Original catalog of the famous exhibition “Tutankhamun and His Time,” organized at the Petit Palais in 1967 by Egyptologist Christiane Desroches-Noblecourt, curator of the Department of Egyptian Antiquities at the Louvre. This event was one of the major French archaeological exhibitions of the 20th century: thanks to exceptional loans from the Cairo Museum, it brought together a significant selection of objects, notably from the funerary furnishings of Tutankhamun’s tomb, and was more broadly dedicated to the art of the 18th Dynasty. It attracted more than 1.24 million visitors and held the record for the highest attendance at an exhibition in France for over half a century. The catalog remains an interesting resource on this historic exhibition to this day. Numerous reproductions of jewelry, furniture, sculptures, funerary objects, and works from the time of Tutankhamun. The photographs include a reproduction of the famous painted chest from the tomb, as well as several scenes depicting royal life and hunting. A fine copy. The cover is slightly scuffed and marked, with minor wear on the top and bottom edges and at the corners; the interior is fresh and well-preserved. There is a small visible warp or wear at the top of the cover.
