Wifredo Lam (1902–1982) was a Cuban painter considered one of the leading figures of 20th-century modern art. His work blends influences from Cubism, Surrealism, and Afro-Cuban traditions. A friend of Pablo Picasso and close to the Surrealists, he developed a highly personal style, filled with hybrid figures, masks, and symbols inspired by Afro-Caribbean beliefs. His most famous painting, *La Jungle* (1943), has become an iconic work of modern art. Today, Wifredo Lam is recognized as one of the most influential Latin American artists of the 20th century.
