That extensive and painstaking scholarship has been the foundation of his historical works, which are the most significant of his writings. That sentiments of honor and enlightened patriotism, a scholarly observation of the region, and a thorough knowledge of ancient chronicles and contemporary events provide a strong and sound foundation for this great and enduring work on Brittany and its inhabitants (...).
