Set of 3 personal letters “Duke of Dalmatia” to “Mr. Vallantin.” Undated (July 1831), Paris, November 27 and December 26, 1840. 3 pp. in-4 in total.
The Duke of Dalmatia informs Mr. Louis Jean-Baptiste Vallantin of the promotions ordered by Louis-Philippe I: …I hereby inform you, Sir, that the King has appointed you, by decree dated June 26 of this year, to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Engineers. I am pleased to announce to you this honorable token of His Majesty’s satisfaction! Pending the issuance of your commission, you are to wear the distinctive insignia of your new rank and receive the salary associated with it… (July 1831) - …I hereby inform you, Sir, that, by Royal Order dated the 23rd of this month, you have been promoted to the rank of Colonel in the Royal Corps of Engineers. You are to wear the insignia of this rank and receive the salary associated with it, effective from the day you set out for the new posting that will shortly be assigned to you… (November 27, 1840) - …Colonel, I hereby inform you that the King, in accordance with the proposal I made to him, has conferred upon you, by decision of the 12th of this month, the position of Director of Fortifications in Perpignan.You will, therefore, make the necessary arrangements to proceed to your new post as soon as possible. He was appointed a Peer of France in 1815 and 1827. He subsequently established the Foreign Legion (1831).
