The Duke of Dalmatia informs Mr. Louis Jean-Baptiste Vallantin of the promotions ordered by Louis-Philippe I: …I hereby inform you, Sir, that the King has appointed you, by decree dated June 26 of this year, to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel of the Engineers. I am pleased to announce to you this honorable token of His Majesty’s satisfaction! Pending the issuance of your commission, you are to wear the distinctive insignia of your new rank and receive the salary associated with it… (July 1831) - …I hereby inform you, Sir, that, by Royal Order dated the 23rd of this month, you have been promoted to the rank of Colonel in the Royal Corps of Engineers.
