RAVIREL (Louis, Baron de). - Lot 263
RAVIREL (Louis, Baron de).
1806–1867.
French lawyer and politician. Deputy for the Vosges.
Autograph letter signed “Baron de Ravirel.”
Paris, March 3, 1855.
Three pages, in-8 format.
A letter of both political and personal nature. The baron humorously describes himself as “the fly on the wall” as he advocates to the minister on behalf of a friend’s discovery, whose publication he actively supports “in the form of a pamphlet, a good number of which will be sent to him.”
He adds, in a more down-to-earth and almost familiar tone: “He has kept his potatoes; they are still, according to the bailiff, in very good condition.”
A curious document blending political advocacy, editorial support, and domestic anecdote, revealing the social conventions and sometimes lighthearted tones of 19th-century correspondence.
An engaging piece with lively and original content.
