NETTEMENT, Alfred-François. - Lot 228
NETTEMENT, Alfred-François.
(Paris, 1805–1869)
Journalist, historian, and Legitimist publicist.
Autograph letter signed “Alfred Nettement,” addressed to “Monsieur le Comte.”
Paris, March 13, 1844.
1 page, in-8.
Letter addressed to an aristocrat, in which Alfred Nettement requests support for the publication of a note in *La Quotidienne*, a Legitimist newspaper to which he actively contributed.
He formulates his request with deference: “Is it an indiscretion to appeal to your kindness to secure the publication in *La Quotidienne* of the following note concerning the baptism of one of Madame de Chaumont’s daughters, my first cousin…?” This brief note reflects social and media conventions under the July Monarchy, when the press and aristocratic circles remained closely intertwined.
It is a document that sheds light on the networks of influence and practices of patronage in the 19th-century political press, as well as on its author’s family and social connections.
