MONSABRÉ (Reverend Father Jacques M.-L.). Blois, 1827–1907. Dominican friar, preacher, and man of letters. Famous orator at Notre-Dame de Paris. Autograph letter signed “A. J. M. Monsabré.” Le Havre, May 9, 1886. 1 page, in-8 format. A cordial letter in which Father Monsabré thanks his correspondent for sending him books and mentions his upcoming return to Paris, where he plans to attend the Salon des OEuvres. He apologizes for never having attended the foundation’s meetings and concludes on a note of modesty tinged with humor: “…If I seem a bit silly, you will forgive me… ” A charming piece that illustrates the simple and approachable personality of one of the great Catholic preachers of the 19th century.
