MENTELLE (Edme). (1730–1815) French geographer, member of the Institut, professor of geography at the École Militaire. Signed autograph letter Tuesday, March 12 [early 19th century]. 1 page, in-8 format, handwritten address on the reverse, wax seal partially preserved. Addressed to Mr. d’Aubas, at the Imperial Treasury, in Paris. Interesting letter of a financial nature A long and remarkable letter in which Mentelle outlines a credit transaction centered on a promissory note for 2,245 livres, with interest calculated at 10% and a detailed repayment schedule. He specifies in particular: “…I have to pay a bill for 2,245 livres on the 19th…” and outlines a repayment plan divided into several installments: “…at the end of July… 200 livres… …at the end of October… 200… …at the end of January 1807… 200…” The letter describes an arrangement based on: - the involvement of a third party (Mrs. S. Aubin) - the issuance of 200-livre notes and an endorsement mechanism - the search for an equivalent in cash payment
