MACDONALD (Étienne Jacques Joseph Alexandre, Duke of Taranto) Marshal of the Empire, then Grand Chancellor of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor. Official printed circular from the Grand Chancellery of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor, 2 folio pages, concerning the royal ordinance of March 26, 1816. Printed letterhead: “Grand Chancellery of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor” Addressed to: “To the Members of the Order.” An important administrative document establishing the new procedures for enrollment, the issuance of certificates, and the verification of titles following the reorganization of the Order during the Restoration. The bottom of the second page bears the printed inscription: “The Grand Chancellor of the Royal Order of the Legion of Honor, MACDONALD” as well as: “Vicomte de Saint-Mars.” A particularly interesting document for the institutional history of the Legion of Honor after the fall of the Empire, at the beginning of the reign of Louis XVIII. Good overall condition, original central creases, minor marginal wear of no significance.
