JULIENNE (Mrs.) - Lot 150
JULIENNE (Mrs.)
Fashion designer at Paul Poiret and Robert Piguet
Autograph letter signed “Julienne,” addressed to Bernard Grasset
Paris, undated [Monday], 1 page and 2 lines folio-size, on letterhead from the J. Suzanne Talbot fashion house, 14 rue Royale.
A charming letter combining personal news and updates from the Parisian literary scene.
The author apologizes for her silence, which was due to illness:
“I’ve just had another bad case of the flu… ”
She thanks her correspondent for the newspapers and articles she received, which she considers:
“amazing, especially the one from *Candide*”
and mentions Jean Giraudoux’s health, noting that she will not be able to see him until the following morning.
The letter concludes with an invitation to continue their conversation:
“Would you like to see me on Wednesday evening? I’ll tell you all about our conversation…”
An interesting insight into the connections between the worlds of Parisian haute couture, publishing, and the literary scene during the interwar period.
Beautifully presented thanks to the superb letterhead featuring J. Suzanne Talbot, a renowned figure in Parisian fashion of the 1920s and 1930s.
In very fine condition.
