GAVARNI (Sulpice Guillaume CHEVALIER, known as Paul).
Born in Paris. 1804–1866. Painter, lithographer, caricaturist. Famous for his lithographs published in *L'Artiste*, *L'Illustration*, and *Le Charivari* (a satirical newspaper founded by Philipon in the 1830s, to which the brilliant Honoré Daumier, among other caricaturists, contributed).
Autograph letter "Gavarni" to Emile Pereire. Auteuil, Wednesday, undated. 1 p. in-8.
Confined to bed since the beginning of the month, Gavarni thanks his correspondent: ...I have heard all (sic) about what you were kind enough to do to make the council’s decision more favorable to me. And I would also like to know if you sent that portrait to the exhibition in London. And I’d like to ask you for those photographs...
