FELETZ (Charles-Marie de, abbot). Gumond, 1767 – Paris, 1850. Man of the Church, journalist, member of the Académie Française, curator of the Bibliothèque Mazarine, literary critic. 2 autograph letters signed “Feletz.” 1 page in-4 and 1 page in-8. Endorsements. Trace of a blue wax seal. An interesting set of two letters in which Abbé Feletz vividly describes his activities and connections in the literary and administrative worlds. In the first, he apologizes for a delay caused by illness, then explains that he has decided to stop publishing announcements in the *Journal des Débats*, complaining about the nuisances they brought him. He mentions his work on the *Thesaurus Biblicus* and the *Thesaurus Patrius*, as well as his relationships with various correspondents. The second letter concerns administrative matters and the transmission of documents pertaining to his uncle, M. de Fars, whose interests he defends before a third party, demonstrating his role as an intermediary and advisor. A prominent figure in intellectual circles during the Restoration, Feletz served as a critic for the *Journal des Débats* and later for the *Mercure de France*, after having been a refractory priest imprisoned during the Reign of Terror.
