DELACROIX (Eugène). - Lot 91
DELACROIX (Eugène). Born in Charenton-Saint-Maurice. 1798–1863. French painter, watercolorist, draftsman, and lithographer. Autograph letter signed “Eug. Delacroix.” No place, no date, the 26th. 1 page, in-8 A BEAUTIFUL LETTER FROM THE ROMANTIC PAINTER REGARDING THE HANGING OF ONE OF HIS PAINTINGS AT AN ART EXHIBITION: ...I thank you a thousand times, my dear Sir: I had stopped by to speak with you about a concern regarding the painting in question. I would very much like it to be displayed at the bottom and on the left side of the gallery, where the lighting is better... Please note that I would ask for this favor only for a limited time and, if necessary, on the condition that my other paintings be moved back up. Once the initial impression has been made in a suitable location for viewing the painting up close, whatever further measures may be deemed necessary in this regard can be taken, and I shall be most grateful...Alphonse de Cailleux served as deputy director of the Louvre Museum and director of the Royal Museums before being appointed Director General of Fine Arts. A royalist, he resigned from all his posts following the fall of Louis-Philippe.
