CORTAMBERT (Pierre François Eugène). (1805–1881) French geographer, active member of the Geographical Society. Autograph letter signed “E. Cortambert” Paris, November 12, 1854. 2½ pages, in-8 format. Letterhead of the Société de Géographie. Letter regarding an obituary notice Letter addressed to a woman (Madame Michelot), following the death of her husband, a member of the Société de Géographie. Cortambert expresses the institution’s condolences: “…We have lost an excellent, hardworking, and learned colleague…” ” Tasked with reading the obituary at a meeting, he requests a biographical summary: “…he asks Mrs. Michelot for a summary of his life.”
