BERG (Alban). Born in Vienna (Austria). 1885–1935. Austrian composer. Student of Schoenberg. Postcard to his student Gottfried Kassowitz (in Vienna). June 27 [1919]. Address, stamps, and postmark. Stamped “Express.” In German. Berg, who is away from Vienna, informs his student that Webern is urging him to send his quartet to Feist. Webern specified that the complete score, including the parts for each instrument, must be sent. The composer asks Kassowitz to call his maid, who is staying with the Lebertz family; after giving him the address, he advises him to arrange a meeting with the maid and go to his home, where he can pick up the score, which is on the piano […]. All of this seems tedious and complicated, but Berg reiterates that it is urgent to deliver the score to Feist so that he can work on it for the upcoming season alongside those by Schoenberg (in D minor), Webern, Stravinsky, Reger (with piano), Ravel, and Bartók….Gottfried Kassowitz. 1897–1969. Conductor, music professor. He studied privately with Alban Berg and was part of the inner circle of the founders of the Vienna School.
