AVENEL (Georges, Viscount of). Born in Neuilly-sur-Seine in 1855—died in 1939. French historian and economist. Author of the important *Economic History of Property, Wages, Commodities, and Prices in General, from the Year 1200 to the Year 1800*. Winner of two Rossi Prizes. Autograph letter signed “Vte G. d’Avenel,” addressed to Léon Labbé. Orne, August 10, 1912. 4 pages, in-8 format. Envelope preserved. An interesting letter addressing economic and trade union issues. Avenel seeks the support of Senator Léon Labbé to expedite the resolution of a petition concerning a matter affecting cider producers, a group to which he himself belongs. The author outlines the lawsuits filed against these producers, who are accused of using colorants and preservatives, and highlights the tensions with winemakers in the South, who intend to deny ciders certain privileges granted to wines. With several legal actions already underway, Avenel emphasizes the importance of the issue, despite its apparent modesty.
