ANDRIEUX, François (Strasbourg, 1759 – Paris, 1833) Man of letters, playwright, and poet; member and later permanent secretary of the Académie française; professor at the Collège de France; a leading figure in literary life during the Empire and the Restoration. Autograph letter signed “Andrieux” to Mr. Labrouste, Paris, December 23, 1832 1 page, in-8 format, brown ink, on printed letterhead of the Institut de France – Académie française, featuring a beautiful allegorical vignette, handwritten address on the reverse, and remnants of a red wax seal. A fine letter in which François Andrieux responds to a request concerning Greek theater: “I would very much like to be able to do what Mr. Taschereau asks; those few pages on Greek theater… ” He notes that the text in question has already been published in the *Revue encyclopédique*, in several articles that appeared successively. The letter is of definite literary interest, bearing witness to Andrieux’s intellectual and editorial activity during the final years of his life. Also noteworthy is the personal connection to the recipient, likely Alexandre Labrouste, brother of the famous architect Henri Labrouste. In excellent condition. An elegantly presented document with great decorative appeal.
