Château de Costère near Cavaillon, October 23, 1884, and Paris, Monday (undated). 4 pp., oblong 8vo. Letterhead of *La Nouvelle Revue*. In the first letter, she finds his ...article interesting. The comparisons between the past and present states of literature were necessary [...]. The second article may follow very soon after this one... she assures him that she will have them published as soon as possible in *La Nouvelle Revue*... And in the second letter, she announces: …I am writing to the President of the Council to try to influence his thinking. At the Ministry of Public Instruction, everything is well prepared, but if Mr. Brisson has a plan for Bourges, I’m afraid there’s nothing I can do in that case. Is your *Gens de lettres* still delayed?...Juliette Adam lived to be nearly a hundred years old. A grande dame of French literature, she associated with Hugo and Flaubert, as well as political figures, including Gambetta. She married Edmond Adam, a senator and advisor to Thiers, in her second marriage. Juliette Adam published some fifty works—novels, memoirs, and political essays—as well as hundreds of articles. In 1879, she founded and edited *La Nouvelle Revue*, a journal devoted to literature and politics. This publication introduced writers such as Guy de Maupassant and Paul Bourget to the public.
