ZIELKE (Willy). - Lot 304
ZIELKE (Willy).
Photographs 1923–1937. Arles, Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie / Musée Réattu, 1982. Large quarto, paperback with illustrated cover.
A rare catalog of the exhibition dedicated to Willy Zielke (1902–1989), held at the Musée Réattu in Arles as part of the Rencontres Internationales de la Photographie, from July 4 to September 25, 1982. This was the first major French presentation of the work of this leading German photographer of the interwar period, a key figure of the Neue Sachlichkeit (New Objectivity) movement.
The book brings together photographs taken between 1923 and 1937, the artist’s most prolific period: architectural studies, industrial compositions, still lifes, formal explorations of glass, metal, and modern materials, landscapes, portraits, and graphic experiments. The reproductions are accompanied by captions in German, French, and English, reflecting the international scope of this retrospective.
Abundant black-and-white illustrations, reproduced with great care, highlight the geometric precision, the play of light, and the modernity of Zielke’s vision, whose influence on European photography remains considerable.
Condition: cover slightly yellowed with a few subtle signs of wear; interior in very fresh condition, free of foxing and annotations. A fine copy.
