First edition of this important monograph devoted to the final decades of the work of Paul Strand (1890–1976), one of the founders of modern photography. Published by Aperture, the book brings together photographs taken between 1950 and the end of Strand’s career in Italy, France, the Hebrides, Egypt, Morocco, Ghana, and Romania. Catherine Duncan, a close friend of the photographer, provides a previously unpublished biographical account, supplemented by a critical essay by Ute Eskildsen, then curator at the Museum Folkwang in Essen. The lavishly illustrated volume features full-page reproductions of the large prints that established Strand’s reputation: portraits, landscapes, architecture, still lifes, and studies of form, printed with the care typical of Aperture publications. One of the finest books devoted to Paul Strand’s late period, now considered a standard work for the study of his oeuvre. Condition: very good copy.
