RODGER (George). Magnum Opus. Fifty Years in Photojournalism. Nishen, 1990. Large in-4, publisher’s binding with illustrated dust jacket. A major monograph dedicated to George Rodger (1908–1995), one of the four founders of the Magnum agency, chronicling half a century of photojournalism. The book, edited by Colin Osman with a text by Martin Caiger-Smith, brings together several hundred photographs spanning Rodger’s entire career: World War II (the London Blitz, North Africa, the liberation of the concentration camps), the Middle East, Africa, the Nuba people, as well as numerous photo essays produced for *Life* and later for Magnum. Abundant black-and-white illustrations reproduced in full-page spreads. Enriched copy: an envelope addressed to Jean-Paul Levet; a handwritten business card bearing the contact information of Mary Alice Leven, related to the “Magnum Opus” exhibition at MoMA in New York; an invitation card to the exhibition “Tina Mérandon, Le Cirque” (Galerie Agathe Gaillard, 1999); an invitation card to the exhibition “Manuel Alvarez Bravo.” Platinum prints (Galerie Agathe Gaillard, 1997). These documents, preserved within the book, attest to its provenance within the photography world. Condition: very good copy; slight wear on the dust jacket.
