RHEIMS (Bettina).
100 Photos by Bettina Rheims for Press Freedom. Paris: Reporters Without Borders, 2008. In-4, paperback.
Album published by Reporters Without Borders on the occasion of World Press Freedom Day 2008. This monograph brings together one hundred photographs by Bettina Rheims (born in 1952), accompanied by texts by Pierre Veilletet, Robert Ménard, Jacques Attali, and Michel Onfray, as well as a chronology of the artist’s career.
The book traces the major photographic series that have made Bettina Rheims famous: portraits of celebrities, fashion, nudes, and series devoted to women, identities, and marginality, revealing a body of work that blends glamour, fragility, provocation, and staging. Detailed captions at the end of the volume place each image within its creative context.
Like all albums in the Reporters Without Borders collection, proceeds from the sale of this book contributed to funding the association’s efforts to defend press freedom.
