First edition of one of the finest works by American photographer Edward Ranney (born 1942), devoted to the monumental architecture of the Maya civilization. Taken during several photographic expeditions in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, and Honduras, the black-and-white photographs highlight the visual power of the great archaeological sites—Tikal, Uxmal, Chichén Itzá, Palenque, Labná, Kabah, Sayil, among others—through a resolutely artistic approach that focuses on volume, texture, and light. The images, printed using high-quality photogravure, are accompanied by a critical essay on Maya architecture, making this volume a reference work for both art historians and enthusiasts of architectural photography.
