A rare catalog published on the occasion of the exhibition held at the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris from October 29, 1981, to January 3, 1982, dedicated to Italian Futurist photography. This exhibition was one of the first in France to present, in a scholarly manner, the full range of photographic experiments developed by artists of the Futurist movement between 1911 and 1939. The book traces the evolution of this photographic avant-garde, from the research of brothers Anton Giulio and Arturo Bragaglia on photodynamism to the abstract experiments of the 1930s, including the works of Tato (Guglielmo Sansoni), Vincenzo Balocchi, Wanda Wulz, Marinetti, Munari, Veronesi, and the leading figures of Italian Futurism. The photograms, superimpositions, photomontages, plays of light, and explorations of movement and speed attest to the desire to radically renew the language of photography. Richly illustrated in black and white, the catalog reproduces numerous works that were rarely published at the time, accompanied by historical and critical studies that remain authoritative on this major chapter of the European avant-garde.
