NADAR (Félix).
Nadar. Connaissance des Arts, special issue published in conjunction with the exhibition at the Musée d'Orsay. Paris, Connaissance des Arts, 1994. Large quarto, paperback, illustrated cover.
An important special issue of *Connaissance des Arts* published on the occasion of the major Nadar exhibition organized at the Musée d’Orsay in collaboration with the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Bibliothèque nationale de France.
The volume brings together contributions by Françoise Heilbrun, Maria Morris Hambourg, Sophie Rochard, Anne de Mondenard, Sylvie Blin, and Claire Mulkai, who trace the entire career of Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, known as Nadar (1820–1910). Topics covered include his early career as a caricaturist and journalist, his famous “Panthéon Nadar,” his work as a portraitist of the great artistic and literary figures of the 19th century, his studio on Boulevard des Capucines, his aeronautical experiments with *Le Géant*, and his pivotal role in the history of modern photography.
Richly illustrated with nearly 150 photographs, this catalog reproduces several of the most famous portraits of Baudelaire, Sarah Bernhardt, Delacroix, Gustave Doré, George Sand, and numerous figures from the Second Empire.
A good copy despite some signs of wear on the cover.
