NADAR (Félix). - Lot 227
NADAR (Félix). Nadar. Photo presents *Les Grands Maîtres de la Photo*, No. 5. Paris, Photo, circa 1985. Large quarto, illustrated hardcover. A monograph dedicated to Gaspard-Félix Tournachon, known as Nadar (1820–1910), published in the series *Les Grands Maîtres de la Photo*, edited by Roméo Martinez. Designed in a richly illustrated format, this series aimed to make the major figures in the history of photography accessible through a selection of their most iconic images, accompanied by a biographical introduction. The volume traces the major stages of Nadar’s career, from his early days as a caricaturist and creator of the famous Panthéon Nadar to his work as a portraitist of 19th-century writers, artists, musicians, and scholars. It also highlights his pioneering work in aerial photography, his Parisian studio, and his pivotal role in establishing the photographic portrait as a true art form. The illustrations include numerous reproductions of portraits that have become classics, among them those of Baudelaire, Sarah Bernhardt, George Sand, Delacroix, and Gustave Doré, as well as several images dedicated to his circle of friends and his wife, Ernestine Lefebvre. Very fine copy.
