First French edition of one of the most important books by Don McCullin (born 1935), a leading figure in photojournalism and war photography. The book brings together a vast selection of his photoessays produced between the 1960s and 1980s: Cyprus, Biafra, Vietnam, Cambodia, Lebanon, Northern Ireland, Bangladesh, as well as England and meditative landscapes of the English countryside. The introduction, specially written by John Le Carré, is a powerful essay on the representation of war, human suffering, and the photographer’s responsibility in the face of history. One of the great classics of 20th-century documentary photography, featuring a mix of images that have become iconic representations of contemporary conflicts and more contemplative photographs taken toward the end of McCullin’s career. Condition: very good copy. Dust jacket has some tears and scuffing along the edges, with no significant missing sections; hardcover and interior are in very fresh condition.
