Born Emmanuel Radnitzky in the United States and having settled in Paris in 1921, Man Ray became one of the leading figures of the Dada movement before joining the Surrealist movement alongside André Breton. A friend of Marcel Duchamp, Picasso, Éluard, and Breton, he revolutionized photography through his technical experiments: rayographs, solarizations, photograms, montages, and portraits of artists—all of which rank among the most iconic images of modernity.
