LA DOCUMENTATION FRANÇAISE. - Lot 170
LA DOCUMENTATION FRANÇAISE.
China. Photographic Documentation, files nos. 5,234–235. Paris, La Documentation française, April–May 1963. In-4, loose-leaf format in the publisher’s illustrated folder.
A comprehensive documentary dossier devoted to the People’s Republic of China, published in the renowned *Documentation Photographique* series. Compiled in the early 1960s, at a time when Mao’s China was still largely closed to Western observers, it serves as a first-rate record of the French perception of the country during that period.
The dossier includes a summary booklet accompanied by a set of black-and-white and color photographic plates illustrating daily life, collectivized agriculture, industry, people’s communes, education, major construction projects, landscapes, monuments, and ethnic minorities. It is supplemented by maps, statistics, and excerpts from the Chinese press, offering an overview of the political, economic, and social realities of the People’s Republic of China in the aftermath of the Great Leap Forward.
Complete copy with its folder and plates. The folder shows some wear and small tears at the edges and corners; the interior is in good condition. Sold as is.
