LA DOCUMENTATION FRANÇAISE. - Lot 165
LA DOCUMENTATION FRANÇAISE.
China. Photographic Documentation, files nos. 5,234–235. Paris, La Documentation française, April–May 1963. In-4, loose-leaf format in the publisher’s illustrated folder.
A comprehensive documentary dossier devoted to the People’s Republic of China, published at a time when the country was still largely unknown in the West. Produced by La Documentation française, it offers a historical, political, economic, and social overview of China in the early 1960s, a few years after the Great Leap Forward and at a time of profound changes initiated by Mao Zedong’s regime.
The dossier includes a study booklet accompanied by an extensive collection of black-and-white and color photographic plates illustrating daily life, agriculture, industry, education, institutions, major construction projects, landscapes, and monuments, as well as numerous official documents, maps, and statistics. The abundant, high-quality illustrations now serve as a valuable record of how the People’s Republic of China was portrayed in French publications of that period.
Complete copy, including its folder and plates. The folder shows some scuffing and signs of wear; the interior is in good condition. Sold as is.
