American edition published for the Museum of Modern Art in New York of one of the most famous photography books of the 20th century. Produced in collaboration with Robert Delpire, *Gypsies* brings together photographs taken by Josef Koudelka between 1962 and 1968 within Romani communities in Czechoslovakia, Romania, Hungary, Spain, and France. The book, with its exceptional expressive power, reveals the profoundly humanistic perspective of the photographer who would join the Magnum agency in 1971. This book is now considered one of the great classics in the history of documentary photography, alongside Robert Frank’s *The Americans* and Henri Cartier-Bresson’s *Les Européens*. A copy of the Special Edition for the Museum of Modern Art, New York, printed in English. Condition: good copy. Dust jacket shows some tears, scuffing, and small tears along the edges. Interior is in very fresh condition, except for a faint marginal stain visible on the endpapers and half-title page, which does not affect the photographic plates. Binding is in very good condition.
