KONOPKA (Bogdan). - Lot 152
KONOPKA (Bogdan). Reconnaissances. Vevey, Images' / Salle del Castillo, 2000. Oblong folio, publisher’s black cardboard binding with flaps, portfolio containing an introductory booklet and a series of twelve reproduced prints mounted on black cardboard. Published to coincide with the exhibition held at the Salle del Castillo (Vevey) from September 29 to October 29, 2000, following Bogdan Konopka’s receipt of the 2nd European Grand Prix of the City of Vevey (1998). A beautiful coffee-table book dedicated to the Polish photographer Bogdan Konopka (born in 1953), who settled in France in the late 1980s and is known for his work created exclusively with a view camera in black and white. His body of work, characterized by great formal rigor, focuses on quiet places, forgotten architecture, deserted urban landscapes, and transitional spaces where light becomes the true subject of the image. His aesthetic, often compared to that of Josef Sudek or Eugène Atget, is distinguished by highly nuanced tones and a profound meditation on time and memory. Designed as a true exhibition portfolio, the book is presented in an elegant slipcase containing an introductory booklet and a series of separate plates reproducing the award-winning photographs. This limited-edition publication, produced for the Images de Vevey Festival, bears witness to the revival of European landscape photography at the end of the 20th century and remains one of the finest publications dedicated to Konopka. Condition: Very good copy. A few slight signs of wear on the black cardboard cover; interior is in pristine condition, with all twelve plates present.
