KIENHOLZ (Edward). - Lot 148
KIENHOLZ (Edward).
Kienholz. Ten Tableaux. Paris. Paris: Galerie Templon, 1980. Large quarto, paperback with a translucent, embossed cover printed in red and blue.
First edition of this important catalog published on the occasion of the Paris exhibition dedicated to Edward Kienholz (1927–1994), one of the leading figures in American assemblage and installation art of the second half of the 20th century.
The book presents ten major works as well as eleven “conceptual paintings,” extensively reproduced and annotated in French and English. It is one of the first major French publications devoted to the artist and documents several of his iconic installations, notably *Roxy’s*, his seminal 1961 work, as well as other environments that have profoundly shaped the history of contemporary art.
The deliberately understated layout highlights the reproductions and critical texts in a bilingual presentation.
Condition: translucent hardcover with some creases, marginal tears, and normal yellowing; interior in very good condition.
