HINE (Lewis). - Lot 131
HINE (Lewis). In Europe. The "Lost" Photographs. Text by Daile Kaplan. New York, Abbeville Press Publishers, 1988. Large in-4, publisher's hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. A beautiful volume devoted to one of the major discoveries in the history of 20th-century photography: the rediscovery of several hundred European negatives by Lewis Hine (1874–1940), long considered lost. Taken between 1907 and 1920, these photographs document, in particular, the working classes, migrants, children, cities, and the upheavals in Europe at the time of World War I. Edited by Daile Kaplan, this volume features full-page reproductions of a significant collection of these rediscovered images and is now one of the essential references on this little-known period of Lewis Hine’s work. Richly illustrated with black-and-white reproductions. Condition: very good copy; hardcover and dust jacket in excellent condition; interior in very fresh condition.
