HAAS (Ernst). - Lot 127
HAAS (Ernst). La Création. Paris, Denoël, 1971. Large oblong quarto (31 x 27 cm), publisher’s hardcover bound in full beige cloth with an illustrated dust jacket and the original promotional band still attached. Numerous full-page color photographic reproductions. Text in French. 184 pp. French first edition of one of the most famous works by Ernst Haas (1921–1986), a leading figure in color photography and a member of Magnum Photos. Conceived as a visual meditation on the primordial forms of the world, *La Création* brings together a series of images taken across several continents, in which the photographer explores natural forces, landscapes, animals, geological phenomena, and the metamorphoses of light. Through its resolutely poetic approach and Ernst Haas’s extraordinary mastery of color, this book marks a pivotal moment in the recognition of color photography as an autonomous artistic language. The images, often bordering on abstraction, reflect a visual exploration that would have a lasting influence on several generations of photographers. One of the great classics of 20th-century color photography. Condition: good copy. Cloth-bound hardcover in very good condition, with a few very slight stains. Illustrated dust jacket with normal wear and minor imperfections along the edges. Original promotional banner preserved but slightly faded. Interior in very fresh condition; a few very slight pressure marks visible on the first blank page, without affecting the text or illustrations.
