GERSTER (Georg). - Lot 116
GERSTER (Georg). Bread and Salt. Aerial Views. Paris, Arthaud, [circa 1984]. Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. A beautiful album by Swiss photographer Georg Gerster (1928–2019), a pioneer of contemporary aerial photography. Through a remarkable series of aerial photographs, he demonstrates how agricultural landscapes, salt flats, industrial zones, and man-made territories become true graphic compositions. The photographs, spectacular for their bird’s-eye view, transform cultivated fields, irrigation systems, salt marshes, and rural structures into quasi-abstract works of art, while offering a reflection on the relationships between humans, nature, and land use planning. Numerous color photographs, most of them full-page. Condition: very good copy, illustrated dust jacket intact, a few very slight signs of wear that are not significant. Interior is fresh and clean.
