GERSTER (Georg). - Lot 115
GERSTER (Georg). Sinai: Land of Revelation. Paris: Plon, [circa 1984]. Large quarto, publisher’s hardcover with illustrated dust jacket. A beautiful volume dedicated to the Sinai Peninsula by the great Swiss aerial photographer Georg Gerster (1928–2019). Drawing on an extensive photographic campaign conducted from the air and on the ground, Gerster explores the interplay between geography, archaeology, biblical history, and contemporary landscapes. He traces the major milestones in the history of the Sinai, from the earliest Pharaonic mining operations to the monastic traditions of Mount Sinai, including the routes attributed to the Exodus. The book stands out for the exceptional quality of its color photographs, which reveal the geological structure and desert landscapes with rare precision. Numerous color photographic reproductions, often full-page. Condition: very good copy. Dust jacket has several tears repaired with clear adhesive tape, with brown adhesive residue on the white endpapers and the first and last pages. Interior is clean, with no foxing or inscriptions.
